Would you bicycle for 24 hours to help a person in need? The newest activity at the Relief Sale is 24 Hours of Relief and they’ll be doing just that – biking to raise funds for Mennonite Central Committee.
With bicycling fast becoming the sport of choice in the surrounding area, a team of local bicycling enthusiasts put their heads together two years ago to create an event to appeal to both diehard bicyclists or just-for-fun riders.
It’s a marathon ride for sure, a somewhat crazy but mostly fun cycling event. With an 11-mile route with one challenging hill to navigate, the rolling grades of Wayne County shouldn’t be too scary. Participants may ride solo or with a relay team of up to 6 members and see how many 11 mile laps they can complete in a 24 hour period. Riders and teams are encouraged to raise funds per mile or lap, and any rider raising over $300 will receive a free 24 Hours of Relief/Ohio Relief Sale jersey.
Riders of all ages, skills and stamina are encouraged to participate. If you’re not crazy enough to ride around the clock, just join the team at 9am on Saturday morning for the Fun Ride.
There will be sore, tired legs by Saturday night but the satisfaction of contributing to digging wells, feeding the hungry and comforting hurting people around the world will remain.
